From the time news of the pandemic began, it was believed that summers would tone down the number of COVID-19 cases. Is this really true? A team of researchers have found that the virus that causes COVID-19, SARS-CoV-2, is indeed sensitive to higher temperatures. However, only time can tell whether this would translate to reduced transmission of the disease or deflate the virulence of the virus.

Have you noticed that in some thriller movies or novels the least suspected protagonist ends up being the criminal mastermind? Well, the COVID-19 pandemic is beginning to present a similar situation wherein some infected individuals show no symptoms of disease, but are unwittingly transmitting the virus to others. Scientists and epidemiologists suspect that this infected but symptom-free population (asymptomatic) may be fuelling the pandemic. A deeper understanding and tracking of these asymptomatic individuals could shape future testing strategies and containment plans.
